House Renovations
Over Christmas break the house will be undergoing a number of important and necessary renovations. The most important of these is the structural reinforcement of the floor in the blue room, which became necessary after years of extensive wear and tear during parties and minor water damage due to radiator leaks. In addition, the stairs leading to the third floor will be structurally reinforced as well, and the cracking and damaged drywall on the underside of the staircase will be replaced. As far as cosmetic renovations go, the banister of the front staircase will be refinished, and, if our funds permit, the drywall in the front hallway will be completely replaced. Total cost for these renovations will be between $10,000 and $13,000 with the majority of the funds coming from the $10,000 Risk Management Foundation Award that Alpha Kappa won last August.
Annex
Below is a sketch of the proposed design for an annex to be constructed on the property. We would appreciate your comments and input on the design. The reason we believe this structure is necessary is to preserve future renovations to the chapter house; providing a facility for parties will remove the tremendous wear and tear they presently make inside the house. In addition, an annex will serve as a multi-function building allowing for a brother's game room, catering capabilities for formal events, and other house needs. As well, we hope that this structure will market our house to the campus, in particular to young men interested in rushing. Placement of the annex will not impede the traditional mudslide on the sidelawn. Of course, we will also be pursuing renovations of the chapter house itself. Substantial work, both structurally and cosmetically, needs to occur soon. Please add your comments about these renovations as well.
